Menlo Oaks Middle School
Our partnership with Menlo Oaks Middle School, located in Menlo Park, dates back to the early 1990s. A public school in the Ravenswood District, Menlo Oaks has an enrollment of 340 boys and girls in grades 5 through 8. The diverse school population is comprised of Hispanic, Pacific Islander, African American and Caucasian students. Our involvement includes:
  • Funding the construction of a science lab
  • Establishing a computer lab which is maintained by our information systems employees. Roche employees wired Menlo Oaks to the Internet in advance of the statewide Net Day in 1996.
  • Organizing an after-school Science Club, which meets weekly under the leadership of Roche biologists and chemists as well as the Menlo Oaks science teacher. Students in the Science Club spend concentrated time in the lab learning the fundamentals of biology and chemistry by conducting hands-on experiments.
  • Participating in statewide "Principal for a Day" activities.
  • Raising funds for the school twice a year through book sales held on the Roche campus.
