ROCHE PHARMACEUTICALS TO HOST CANOPY'S NEXT TREE WALK
Canopy: Trees for Palo Alto is proud to announce that its next Tree Walk will be held on Saturday, June 9 2001, on the grounds of Roche Pharmaceuticals in the Stanford Research Park. The walk will be led by Dave Docktor, Planning Arborist (ISA-WC-0351) Planning Division of the City of Palo Alto. Participants will meet at 10:00 a.m. under the flag pole at the main entrance to Roche Pharmaceuticals at 3401 Hillview Avenue, Palo Alto. The walk will last less than two hours and there will be no charge to attendees. Water and snacks will be provided.
The original landscape design for this site was developed with a unique sensitivity to the surrounding community. The outer edge, bordered by Foothill Expressway, Arastradero Road, and Hillview Avenue has a 100 foot buffer of natural vegetation, predominantly oaks and grasses. Berms, heavily planted with a variety of trees, surround most of the parking lots, also planted with trees.
The heavy use of trees in the landscape serves many purposes. They screen the buildings and cool parking lots, while providing the aesthetic appeal of heavily forested land. This Tree Walk is an unique opportunity to view how one of our neighborhood companies has gone the extra mile to give back to our environment. For more information on the Tree Walk, call Canopy at 650-964-6110 or e-mail Canopy at info@canopy.org.
Roche has 1,200 employees in Palo Alto who work on discovering and developing new medicines to treat diseases including arthritis, asthma and other respiratory diseases, osteoporosis, urological disorders, and neuropsychiatric disorders such as depression and schizophrenia. Roche is one of the leading healthcare companies in the world, with headquarters in Switzerland.
Sponsored by the Peninsula Conservation Center, Canopy is a non-profit organization whose goal is to rejuvenate Palo Alto's urban forest by involving residents, community groups and the City of Palo Alto in planting trees and inspiring people to care for them. In addition to planting trees, Canopy provides an information and referral service and has a library on tree care. Volunteers are also needed for a new tree care program, as neighborhood "tree ambassadors" and to work on other educational programs.
